Free tools / Barcode generator
Barcode generator, one label or a whole sheet.
Paste a list of SKUs and print a sheet of labels, or make a single barcode and download it as a sharp SVG. Code 128 for your own codes, EAN-13 for retail numbers, with the check digit worked out or checked for you.
No sign-up. Nothing you type leaves your browser.
Which barcode do you need?
Code 128 encodes letters, digits and punctuation, so it carries your own SKUs, bin locations, order numbers and serials. It is for use inside your business: the warehouse, the counter, the delivery note. Nobody has to issue you anything.
EAN-13 is the number on retail packaging, read at shop tills worldwide. A 12-digit UPC-A is the same barcode with a zero in front. The bars are easy to make; the number is not yours to make up.
An EAN is a licensed number
The digits in an EAN-13 are a GTIN, issued through GS1. Retailers and marketplaces check that a GTIN is registered to the brand using it. This tool draws the barcode for a number you already hold, and checks its final digit. It cannot give you a number, and one invented here will be rejected where it matters.
Before you print a thousand
- Print one and scan it with the scanner or phone app you will actually use.
- Print at 100% scale. Shrinking a barcode to fit a label is the usual reason it will not read.
- Keep the blank margin either side of the bars. Scanners need it to find where the code starts.
- Dark bars on a light, matt background. Glossy labels and coloured stock cause misreads.
Questions
Will these scan?
They are standard Code 128 and EAN-13 symbols, and the encoder is checked against an independent implementation. Print quality and size decide the rest, so always scan a test print before a production run.
What does the check digit do?
The last digit of an EAN-13 is worked out from the other twelve. If someone mistypes a digit, the sum no longer fits, and the scanner rejects the code. Enter 12 digits and it is added for you; enter 13 and it is verified.
Can I use my SKUs from the SKU generator?
Yes. Copy the list from the SKU generator and paste it here, one per line.
SVG or PNG?
SVG stays sharp at any size and is what a label designer or printer wants. PNG is for places that only take images.
Is my list sent anywhere?
No. The barcodes are drawn in your browser.
OrbisVendor stores a barcode number on a product. It does not draw barcodes or print labels yet. That is why this tool stands alone.
Want the product behind the code in one place?
OrbisVendor holds each product with its stock per location, and serialized items as their own unit rows.
